It doesn't feel like a Friday! It hasn't even been a week and already I have that sensation of floating along like an unmoored buoy, bobbing along on a stream of hours and minutes floating by. Also, Anderson Cooper is reporting from his apartment right now. That's a little rattling, reporters holed in their apartments with a camera feels ever more apocalyptic.
The news is scary. But we had some bright spots today! I am not much of a baker (I LOVE the creativity of cooking, but baking has always been hard for me). But my sister in law shared a recipe for homemade bagels, and given the dearth of baked goods on the supermarket shelves lately, I decided to give it a whirl. E was my little helper :)

And the bagels came out great!
I promised myself that this wouldn't become a blog with annoyingly cute mom crafts and overly complicated recipes where I say "But it was SO easy!!!", but in case you can't find bagels in your supermarket, here is the recipe! And it really was actually easier than I thought. I didn't make my own seasoning like in the recipe, I happened to have Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel Seasoning on hand, delish!
Emma and I also made some chocolate pudding, which I had been promising all week but had put off until now, so I thought we may as well go for it while the dough was rising. I use a very simple smitten kitchen recipe, and I felt so accomplished for the day I decided to get take out for dinner!
Which brings me to another bright spot: our local microbrewery! We've always been fans, but this week they started doing take out, offering not only free hamburgers and hot dogs for kids, but a sliding scale "pay what you can/pay nothing" for food. It is great to see their support for the community, and we wanted to support them. Even better, the governor of Vermont just signed a new bill saying that, during the crisis, restaurants could serve alcohol TO GO. Yeah, to go. So in addition to free stuff for the kids, delicious food (burger and lamb gyro) for the grown ups, I brought my own jar and walked out with this beauty.
I mean, what could be more Vermont than that?
I nice walk around town with a friend was also a breath of fresh air. It is amazing how getting out of the house and socializing with another human can really reset my whole mood and ground me again. We arrived back in front of our houses, the rain started pouring down, but we stood and kept chatting, both us so deprived of human interaction that talking in rain sounded better than saying goodbye.
